Young Artists Move presents The Lobby

In a world of instant gratification, where one opportunity achieved inevitably leads to the desire for more, where we are always waiting for the next big thing; The Lobby invites us to take a necessary (and delightfully uncomfortable) pause.

Two strangers meet at an audition after waiting for what feels like their whole life to get the role. Invariably, their perception on time is warped by their desperation. The Lobby becomes a place of waiting… in preparation for what comes next… a place that interpolates time as a social construct by interrupting our relationship with it.

This performance is a proof of concept that engages with time as a social construct through a systematic lens. At its core, it asks the fundamental question: How long can one wait for an opportunity until time becomes imperceptible? 

Through an absurdist approach, audiences are invited to be part of an encounter that reflects their own state of waiting. It’s a play that takes a hard look at our contemporary moment and our relationship to waiting in a time of instant gratification.

Tshiamo Maloka - Director


Tshiamo Maloka is a theatre maker that’s passionate about reflecting the contemporary moment and developing a performance practice that engages with physical theatre. His current interest is in the relationship between body and material in the theatre space, looking at the dynamic relationship between the set and the performers, allowing worlds and atmosphere to emerge. His most recent work Reaxenia was programmed at Theatre Arts for the Young Professionals series and at the Joburg Theatre for POPArt’s Next Draft festival. His performance experience includes How to Train Your Thoughts at the Baxter Theatre in 2026, for the Zabalaza Festival where he was nominated for the most promising actor award. His approach to theatre is rigorous, with an innate passion for performance that brings curiosity, energy, and stamina that breathe life into the worlds he creates.

Christopher Hawker-Jehring - Performer


Christopher Hawker-Jehring is an aspiring stage, screen and voice actor with a passion for storytelling and bringing scripts to life. A graduate of the University of Cape Town, he has honed his craft in voice work, devising, movement, text analysis, character-work and more, to bring depth and versatility to every role. This is Chris’ second performance at Theatre Arts having performed as George in Seth Cleote’s “The Last Supper(s)” last year.

Whether Chris is in front of the camera, on the stage or behind the microphone, he is dedicated to creating compelling and authentic performances that continue to captivate the audience.

Theetso Pitso - Performer


Theetso Pitso is a 23 year old actor from Botswana, passionate about storytelling through cinema, theatre, animation, and visual art. With a strong appreciation for collaborative creation, he brings enthusiasm, imagination, and a dynamic presence to everyproject. His background spans acting, voice work, digital illustration, clowning, and performance-making. He approaches each role with openness, curiosity, and a commitment to growth.

Aman Ngema - Set and Costume Designer


Aman is a multidisciplinary performer passionate about exploring Faith across all spheres of performance. She appeared in The Women at the Zabalaza Festival 2024, The Tides in Me(Dea) at Magnet Theatre in 2025 and Reaxenia at the Joburg Theatre in 2026. Aman’s artistic foundation lies in dance, having trained in ballet for over 11 years and performed at The Playhouse Company in Durban. This training not only shaped her physical discipline but continues to inform her embodied approach to performance.

Aasim Ellis - Set and Costume Designer


Aasim Ellis is an actor, performance-maker, and researcher in Theatre & Performance Studies. His recent credits include REAXENIA, which had its Johannesburg premiere following a successful Cape Town run in 2026. His international experience includes a collaborative production at ENSATT in Lyon, France, in partnership with CNSMD Lyon and the South African College of Music. He has also worked at the Maynardville Open-Air Theatre (2025) and Suidoosterfees (2026). Aasim integrates a performer’s intuition with strong technical stage management skills, making him a versatile and valuable member of any creative team.
