The show tackles the psychological challenges of raising a boy child in a damaged society by following the story of a young boy called Newt!
It Went Above Your Head is a theatre play about a boy who finds himself in a predicament that could break his family apart. He tries to hide his truth from the world and does not realise the damage it does to him. This unusual love story, amid complicated dynamics in a household, while making everything odd, seem normal. This is a mentally challenging story about Newt and his family with their surroundings.
The play had two sold out runs at the Suidoosterfees at ARTSCAPE in 2023. It's last run was at the National Arts Festival 2024.

NT JIKWA - Writer and Director
NT Jikwa is an actor, casting director, script writer, film director and theatre-maker. His writing and directing debut was in 2019 when he wrote and co-directed his indie short-film Family, Aren’t We?’ and Under Confinement (2020). For theatre, he has written and directed A Religion Apart (2024), My Society (2021), A Funeral: Is he being reasonable? (2024) and It Went Above Your Head (2023 -2024). NT is a writer at CUMI MEDIA.
Marshly RAMMALA
Marshly is currently in her third year of studying jewelry design at CPUT. Her work includes It Went Above Your Head (2023 -2024).
Brian MLAUDZI
Since 2020 Brian has been performing. His short films include What Goes Around Comes Around, FATE, Pssssh, Though I Walk, and Family Aren’t We?’ His theatre experience includes MY SOCIETY (2021), ESKOLWENI (2022), To Whom It My Concern (2022) and It Went Above Your Head (2023 -2024).
Simamkele MAKEKE
Simamkele is a South African hip hop artist, a song writer, music video director and a performer. His filmography includes Unseen and Hunters of the Killers. His latest theatre work includes It went Above Your Head (2023 -2024).
Mpilontle ZWANE
Mpilo is a recording artist and an actor. In 2022, he joined the CPUT Performing Arts Society. His current work includes It Went Above Your Head (2023-2024).
Esihle DIKO
Esihle is a recording artist and stage performer. She is currently studying film and video at CPUT where she’s a member of the Performing Arts Society. Her current work includes It Went Above Your Head (National Arts Festival 2024)
Portia TUKAYI
Portia is a student at CPUT. Her current work includes It Went Above Your Head (2023-2024), while her recent work in film is Glass Echo (2024).
Lilitha HILIZA
