Following successful runs in East London and Gqeberha, and a sold-out season at the National Arts Festival, the Sonwa Sakuba Institute for the Performing Arts (SSIPA) brings its enchanting production of Disney’s Aladdin JR to Theatre Arts, Observatory, Cape Town, this festive season.
Based on the beloved Disney classic, Aladdin JR transports audiences to the bustling streets of Agrabah, where a street-smart young dreamer discovers a magic lamp, a larger-than-life Genie and a world of possibilities beyond anything he could have imagined. With a daring princess, a mischievous monkey, a scheming royal vizier and a whole lot of magic, this timeless adventure reminds us that courage, kindness and believing in yourself can change your destiny.
Packed with vibrant choreography, memorable musical numbers, colourful characters and the infectious energy of SSIPA’s talented young performers, this production promises a theatrical experience filled with laughter, wonder and festive -season magic.
Aladdin JR marks SSIPA’s exciting return to Cape Town following the success of its 2025 Cape Town Theatre Award-winning production of Disney’s Moana JR, which took home the award for Best Theatre Production for
Children and Young People. Building on that achievement, SSIPA continues its commitment to nurturing young South African talent while creating professional, accessible and memorable theatre experiences for audiences of all ages.
From the streets of Agrabah to the magic of the stage, this is a celebration of imagination, friendship and the courage to dream beyond your circumstances.
