Kim Kerfoot directed Statements After An Arrest Under the Immorality Act forty years after it was written and first performed in 1972 at The Space Theatre.
Statements is a compelling love story set in a library during apartheid. It is about the struggle of two people to love who are trapped in their lives, trapped in their roles, trapped in the time they live in: what two lovers face in a social system that regards their relationship as being criminal.
“What excites me about my production is that it is complicated, it doesn't try to give easy answers. It has a visceral power. The emotional immediacy lets you in, past the history and the politics to see what this Act, what this System did; the devestation it caused at a fundamental level, to one relationship, to two people.” - Kim Kerfoot
“I am thrilled to be part of this production, the landscape of the play resonates on many levels for me, the brutal legislation is part of my personal history” - Bo Petersen
