After an inspiring year in which Theatre Arts presented incredibly diverse work of just over 75 different productions – work from Cape Town to Johannesburg and work presented by the most established to the most emerging of artists – we are opening up the call for 2027.

Are you planning your 2027?
Do you need to start thinking about your 2027?
Do you have a work that you are keen to get up and onto the floor in 2027?
Do you have a work that has been in the making in 2026 and now you are ready to perform?

Theatre Arts is putting out a call for work for next year – all genres of theatre including dance, theatre for the young and experimental work.

We are looking for work that is both local and national for a programme that is dynamic, nuanced and diverse.

Applications can include:
Already existing work
New work that is in the pipeline for 2027
Work that has performed at Theatre Arts in the past
Workshops or Workshop Series
Ways of creating Artist-to-Artist engagement

Theatre Arts does not contribute financially to the development of any work, but where possible and where needed, will engage in the mentorship of new work.

All productions will receive technical support in the presentation of their work as part of the season, as well as publicity support. Performances can range from 2 performances minimum to a maximum of 7 performances. 7 performances are reserved for productions that have already gone through a process of presenting the work in short runs. Productions will work on an affordable venue hire which includes a technical team to rig and operate. Companies receive 95% of the door with the 5% being PayFast’s commission.

Travel and Accommodation for Visiting Artists

Travel and accommodation costs are at the expense of all companies outside of Cape Town. Theatre Arts does have a partnership with The Green Elephant Backpackers where a discount on accommodation is possible. The Green Elephant is a warm and hospitable environment that is 80m from the theatre. It offers shared accommodation as well as private accommodation with self-catering.
