Who Done Did It? is a fast-paced, laugh-out-loud murder mystery set in a touring South African theatre troupe where drama spills offstage—literally. When an actress is found murdered (with a high heel to the head, no less), the eccentric Detective Oppenheimer and his eager sidekick Jane Jones arrive to crack the case. Everyone is a suspect!

This play is filled with twists, scandal, and pure theatrical madness, no one is safe—and everyone’s got something to hide.

Directed by Emma Amber and written by Michaela Richards, this riotous comedy will have you in hysterics When an actress from a touring theatre troupe is found deader than dead, chaos ensues. Enter Detective Eugene Oppenheimer, a man of unparalleled wit, charm, and an undeniably lush head of hair, accompanied by his ever-eager sidekick, Constable Jane Jones. Their mission? To untangle the web of secrets, scandals, and absurd alibis before the killer strikes again. Set against the backdrop of a touring South African theatre company, Who Done Did It? is a fast-paced, laugh-a-minute murder mystery packed with eccentric characters, unexpected twists, and moments of pure theatrical madness.

From the melodramatic leading lady who never stops singing to the suspicious stagehand with a grudge, every suspect has something to hide.

During the interactive 15-minute interval, audience members submit their votes on who they think the killer is, making each performance a uniquely thrilling experience.

Emma Amber is a Cape Town-based writer, director, performer, and voice-over artist. She is the founder of Origen Productions and was nominated for a Fleur du Cap Theatre Award for Best New Director for The Marvelous Wonderettes. Her writing and directing credits include Trial and Error (Masambe Theatre, Baxter), Love Me, Feed Me, Never Leave Me — returning to the stage at the National Arts Festival this June and her Christmas show The Jingle Belles. Which also returns this year at Daphne Kunn's Theatre on the Square in Johannesburg. 


Michaela Richards is a writer and director based in Cape Town with a background in theatre, animation, and broadcast. Her theatre credits include Dating, Mating and Relating for Dummies, Proof, and Romeo and Juliet – Sort Of. Michaela is also a screenwriter for animation studio Polycat Visual Effects and contributes scripts to Studio Djembe. You may also recognise her voice from the airwaves — she has appeared as a presenter on HeartFM.
