Seeds of Peace... Echoes of Memories

Dance Theatre
Seeds of Peace: Echoes of memories is the third production in an ongoing Theatre Arts showcase series that foregrounds the creative voices of SboNdaba Dance | Directed by Wanie JOHANNES | Co-directed by Sinazo MXELI | Choreographed by dancers of SBONDABA DANCE and Artistic Director Sbonakaliso NDABA.

In a world fractured by inhumane wars and ongoing conflict, Seeds of Peace: Echoes of Memories reflects on what it means to remain human.  Rooted in South Africa’s layered history, the work draws from the impact of colonialism and the legacy of powerful indigenous kingdoms, revealing cycles of rupture, resilience, and renewal. Through dance and music, ancestral knowledge resurfaces—echoing through our memories—to imagine peace not as an end, but as something continually planted, carried, and reborn.

Seeds of Peace: Echoes of Memories is the third production in an ongoing Theatre Arts showcase series that foregrounds the creative voices of SboNdaba Dance artists. This platform has become known for highly successful, dancer-led works that reflect both personal and collective narratives.

The series began in 2022 with Umhlangano of Short Stories, followed in 2025 by Generations, each marking a deepening of choreographic confidence and thematic ambition within the company.

For Seeds of Peace: Echoes of Memories, third- and fourth-year dancers take the lead in choreographing the first half of the production, guided and mentored by senior company members. The second half features a compelling work by Sinazo Mxeli, Isono Sam (My Sin), and the performance culminates in a powerful new interpretation of the classical masterpiece Boléro, choreographed by Artistic Director Sbonakaliso Ndaba.
