Movement Studies: Floorwork is a contemporary movement workshop led by dancer and choreographer Thamsanqa Majela, rooted in embodied knowledge, somatic awareness, and contemporary dance methodologies. The practice explores the relationship between body and floor, focusing on grounding through weight transfer, breath, rhythm, and spiral pathways, enabling smooth transitions between floor and standing movements.
The workshop treats the floor as an active partner—offering support, resistance, and feedback—rather than a surface to escape, encouraging dancers to engage with clarity, presence, and responsiveness. Emphasis is placed on breath, gravity, momentum, and musicality to deepen somatic awareness and movement efficiency.
Designed for participants across diverse age groups and practices, the sessions are inclusive of both young and older artists, accommodating dancers above the age of 40, as well as actors and performers exploring embodied expression. This structure fosters cross-generational learning, experimentation, and a shared exploration of movement in dialogue with the body and space.
