A 60 minute, masterclass in mask and physical theatre performance. Writer, and performer Aldo Brincat, joins forces with Sophie Joans as director in this unforgettable and utterly unique solo performance.
Masc is a mask play that explores how masculinity how has changed over recent history. Using a range of three-quarter theatre masks, Aldo brings a slew of characters to life as he seeks to tell stories that could so easily belong to all of us – stories of love at first sight, forbidden pleasures, humiliation and heartbreak. Partly set in a South Africa still under the grip of apartheid fascism, and partly now, in a time of democracy, Masc also seeks to remind us as our world appears to be sliding back toward fascism, that free love and consensual sex are always at stake.
Aldo Brincat is a multi award winning international, multidisciplinary artist. His recent play The Moon Looks Delicious From Here won The Special Jury Award at the Bitesize Theatre Festival at the Riverside Studios in London, and the Standard Bank Silver Ovation, at the 50th Anniversary of the National Arts Festival in Makhanda, South Africa, both in 2024.
In Masc, Aldo joins forces with Sophie Joans as director. Sophie is a theatre force with a string of theatre initiative, theatrical hits and awards up her sleeve. Sophie brings her youthful zest and sharp eye to Masc and launches the production further down the road of excellence.
