We are like seeds that fall from a tree bearing fruit. Over time, the fruit opens, and the seeds scatter. Some of us take root nearby and bloom, while others travel far and grow in new places. Wherever we land, we continue to grow and evolve, shaped by the teachings we’ve received. As we encounter new people, ideas, and challenges, we change, form new connections, and grow stronger.
We honor the elders who paved the way for us, making the journey easier for the younger generation. Now, it’s our turn to make sense of what we’ve learned. Their spirit lives on in us—in the paths they set and the wisdom they shared. Though some may no longer be with us, their influence endures. We are their legacy. Through us, their stories, memories, and lessons continue to live on, reminding us of their lasting impact.
SboNdaba Dance continues its mission by offering a platform for emerging choreographers. Directed by Sinazo Mxeli, with senior members, interpreting their unique stories, the performance will feature music by Zinzi Nogavu and a finale by Artistic Director Sbonakaliso Ndaba.
Generations explores how we evolve through teachings, challenges, and new connections. Honouring those who paved the way, we carry their wisdom forward, ensuring their legacy lives on through us.
I was born in Cape Town, Khayelitsha, to a family of Xhosa descent. My dance journey began in high school, where I studied modern contemporary and African contemporary as part of the curriculum.
