Theatre Arts Learning Placement in Lighting and Technical (Dec 2025 – Mar 2026)

Theatre Arts, a busy independent theatre hosting 5–8 productions monthly, is offering a paid Learning Placement in Lighting and Technical from December 2025 to end of March 2026. This is a full-time placement that provides hands-on experience working closely with Theatre Arts’ technical manager in a professional theatre environment. Applicants need to understand that theatre technical work is often erratic hours with a bulk of the work happening in the evenings.

We are seeking someone who loves theatre, not from a performance perspective, but someone who wants to make a career for themselves as a technical operator and lighting designer – telling stories through light and supporting artists’ visions.

  • Practical, hands-on experience working technically with a wide variety of artists
  • Insight into the operations of a busy independent theatre
  • Working on a production from rig to final strike
  • Mentorship from an experienced professional
  • The chance to see your work contribute directly to live productions and the life of the theatre

Eligibility / Skills

  • A real interest in theatre lighting
  • Some technical experience
  • Strong teamwork skills along with an ability to work calmly under pressure
  • Enthusiasm, reliability, and creative problem solving are essential

Remuneration

  • R5000 per month
