International Opportunities for Independent Theatre Makers

Nicola Elliott

Part 1: China

China is the new land of opportunity. With a young population and an incredible willingness
from the government to invest in their children, along with high expectations of excellence in
education, China is opening its doors to western culture and cultural practitioners who can
lead their young generation into a new global era.

Join us for an evening of conversation on Sunday 23 rd February, in which Nicola Elliott will
share her experience of working in China for 9 months in 2019 as a theatre maker and
dance specialist for the very young. She will touch on the range of opportunities she was
afforded, the experience of working within a culture and language that was utterly foreign,
and new ways of navigating networks when websites are not the norm. What is out there?
How can one access this information? And how can one get on the Dragon Express?

She will be joined by Jayne Batzofin who spent a month in China in 2019 working on a
holiday theatre camp, and Nwabisa Plaatjie who will just have returned from China where
she presented AHA! a theatre production produced by Magnet Theatre, for the very young.
RSVP Caroline on by Wednesday 19 th February.
